Maria vs Collage

For and hand made collage you need some good pictures, glue and scissors.
Even thought your are not too good at drawing you will get good results! The collage is a technique that I always loved .Very good for:

1) " trompe l'oeil"

2 )  elegant silhouettes
3 ) "effect surrealism"

(--- )

I just found some collage by Maria Campadello, one of my students at the course of fashion illustrations: good
talent and a beautiful smile! Maria's drawings were spontaneous, fresh, immediate.
We recently spoke about her life experiences, she has been working in London and then she moved to Milan. The knowledge of fashion languages, that Maria has studied well, together with the "know how" learned by living the city brought her to collaborate with Giovanni Cavagna.

"I'm very grateful to him, I've learnead a lot from this experience. Giovanni Cavagna's approach is very interesting, especially his search of sophisticated materials combined with his study new forms and volumes."

Your own collage has to be filled with: a lot of patience  curiosity, passion, skills, talent.

The winning ingredients exist! ;)

I dedicate this post to Maria and also to Amanda Chinchelli, ( SEEA ) that I admire for her strength and determination.

good luck for your next collages!

corriere della sera - backstage

Today a new painting came out on the newspaper.
It's about a special skin care, a product with "magic" elements to preserve and nourish.
for a 100% youthful effect ;)

beside that...here that I wanna show all the steps that brought me to the final image.

1) a rough sketch of the girl is done
2) I tryed to crop it out, to make it bigger / to search the "eye contact game". (Alex Katz docet)
3) Since I like both illustrations, I decided to paint 2 images and give to the editor the final decision.
4) one is more sophisticated, maybe it has more glamour...
5) the second is more "friendly". Probably the cream featured in the drawing explains better the concept.
The editor liked the second more than the first, as you can see in the last picture, wich is the corriere of today itself.

Abbiamo passato lunghi pomeriggi a progettare, cucire, dipingere.

2) nulla per me è mai assurdo o impossibile.

(----)

Federica Sacchini is a "sister from the sea".
We spent many afternoon planning, sewing and painting.
We were never tired, always full of ideas. Some was successful, others that we never realized. ;)

I believe I gave her inspiration:
1) 'cause I'm older
2) 'cause for me nothing is impossible

The bags realized by Federica are having success because they are beautiful.
Unique, colorful, impeccable in manufacturing.

The name? "winds little bags",  made from recycling of windsurf sails and boats.
A nice patchwork of floats, tarpaulins and ropes:
All that is forgotten or found on the beaches and around the ports is cleaned, assembled
(and sewn with love.)

you scratched my anchor!

I see anchors everywhere. T-shirts, tattoos, logos...
The fashion world became full of mariners?
It's a big trend, for sure. From Tokio to L.A. people dress up "navy oriented". Does everyone know how to sail?  I'm not sure... ;)

I have to admit it is a very cute style. Especially during wintertime, I love very classic brands like "Slam" or "North sails". The red - blue - white and denim combo, is so simple and chic.

I have a lot of friends that work on boats. Some of 'em lives 6 months in italy and the rest of the year around the world. They have been everywhere: when I visit their facebook page, I see pictures from dreamy places like Tahiti or the Caribbean islands. Actually some of them doesn't even have the I phone or a facebook page. I'm very fascinated by those ousiders":  they sail, they fish, they know the names of the stars. They go against the system, wich is almost impossible, nowadays.

Ok, it sounds very poetic..  but I believe freedom needs a lot of courage.
